Ad-supported tiers: worth the savings or too annoying?

I switched from Netflix Standard ($15.49) to Netflix with Ads ($7.99) three months ago. Honestly? The ads are way less intrusive than I expected — about 4 minutes per hour, usually at the beginning and one mid-roll break. That is saving me $90/year on just one service. I have also tried Disney+ and Max ad tiers. Disney+ ads are similar to Netflix — minimal and unobtrusive. Max ads felt slightly heavier but still tolerable. The only one I could not handle was Hulu — the ad frequency and repetition drove me crazy. What has everyone else experienced with ad tiers?

Agreed on Hulu — their ad load is noticeably worse than the others. I actually did the math: Netflix ads save you $90/year for about 48 hours of total ad time over a year (assuming 2 hours/day watching). That works out to paying yourself about $1.87/hour to watch ads. Not terrible, but if you value your time highly, the ad-free tier might be worth it. For me the sweet spot is ad-supported on services I use casually, ad-free on my primary service.

One thing people miss about ad tiers: some of them restrict features. Netflix with Ads does not let you download for offline viewing, and Disney+ with Ads limits which devices can stream simultaneously. If those features matter to you, factor that into the decision. I keep Netflix ad-free because I download shows for my commute, but use ad tiers on everything else.
