Cord cutting 2 years later — my honest review

I cut cable exactly 2 years ago. My cable bill was $187/month for TV + internet. Now I pay $65/month for internet only plus about $45/month in streaming services (rotating). That is $110 vs $187, saving me $924/year. The things I miss: channel surfing (there is something nice about just flipping channels), live news (YouTube TV or Hulu Live fixes this but at a cost), and sports (this is the hardest part — you need specific services for specific leagues). The things I do not miss: commercials during shows, the cable box rental fees, dealing with the cable company, and paying for 200 channels I never watched. Overall, absolutely worth it. Would never go back.

Sports was the last thing keeping me on cable too. What finally pushed me over was realizing I could get NFL on Peacock (Sunday Night) + Amazon Prime (Thursday Night) + an antenna for local games. MLB has its own app, NBA is on various services. It is not as convenient as one cable package, but it is way cheaper. For the few games I cannot get, I just go to a sports bar — cheaper than a cable bill and more fun.

Two years for me as well and the savings are real. One tip for live news — most local stations stream free on their websites or apps. For national news, YouTube has free live streams from several networks. You really do not need to pay for a live TV service just for news. The Pluto TV and Tubi free services also have live news channels that work surprisingly well.
